Smokey Robinson – Quiet Storm (Groove Boutique Remix f/ Roy Ayers) (2007)

In 2007, Motown opened up its vault to an elite group of DJs and producers to flip a few classics. Contributers included ?uestlove & James Poyser (producing under their collective moniker “The Randy Watson Experiment”), Salaam Remi, Jazzy Jeff and King Britt, to name a few.

One unheralded gem included in the mix was the Groove Boutique remix of Smokey Robinson’s sultry classic, “Quiet Storm.” Featuring none other than Roy Ayers with a guest solo, this tune is one of few productions credited by DJ Rafe Gomez. His gentle nu soul ambiance add a serene texture to the classic, and Roy’s tasteful contribution on the vibes make this remix a smooth listen in any weather.
